SWCHEM’s PSA methane enrichment technology is used to recover and upgrade CH₄ from CH4-containing gas streams by utilizing the different adsorption capacities of adsorbents for various gas components under different pressure conditions.
During pressurization, impurities in the CH₄-rich feed gas are selectively adsorbed by the adsorbent, while weakly adsorbed components such as CH₄ pass through the adsorber and are collected as product gas.
This technology is suitable for methane recovery and upgrading from landfill gas, biogas, coke oven gas and other CH₄-containing gas sources.
The methane enrichment process is based on selective adsorption and pressure swing regeneration.
At higher pressure, impurities such as CO₂ and other components are adsorbed on the adsorbent bed. CH₄, as a weakly adsorbed component, passes through the adsorber and is discharged as enriched methane product gas.
During depressurization, the adsorbed impurities are desorbed, allowing the adsorbent to be regenerated and reused in the next adsorption cycle.
Typically, at least four adsorbers are required for alternating operation to ensure continuous output of product CH₄.
Applicable feed gases include:
| Item | Data |
|---|---|
| Pressure | 0.4–4.0 MPa(g) |
| Temperature | Ambient temperature |
| Item | Data |
|---|---|
| Product | Enriched CH₄ gas |
| CH₄ purity | 80–99 vol% |
| CH₄ recovery | 70–95% |
| System pressure drop, ΔP | 0.05–0.1 MPa |
| Temperature | Ambient temperature |
Note: CH₄ recovery depends on feed gas composition, feed pressure and required product CH₄ purity.
PSA units are controlled by dedicated controllers and instruments. Depending on the PSA unit capacity, automation level and customer control requirements, a DCS control system consistent with the customer’s main plant may be used, or a standalone PLC control system may be selected.
In addition to conventional PSA sequence control, loop control and other control functions, SWCHEM also provides specialized control strategies for fully automatic load adjustment, fault diagnosis and fault isolation.
The system can support adaptive optimization, self-diagnosis and fault isolation, improving operational flexibility and helping ensure long-term, stable and safe operation of the unit.
